PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device which performs preferable irradiation with an optical beam by preventing bending of a thin plate-shaped lid member covering an opening part of a housing, and provides a high-quality image. PSOLUTION: The scanning optical device 20 includes: the housing 21 having therein an optical apparatus irradiating a surface to be scanned with the optical beam; and the thin plate-shaped lid member 25 covering the opening part of the housing 21. The lid member 25 includes a reinforcement member 28 brought into close contact with its outer surface. The reinforcement member 28 is attached to the lid member 25 by a screw 29 that is a fastening member penetrating through the lid member 25 from the inside of the lid member 25. Accordingly, the lid member 25 is held between the reinforcement member 28 and the screw 29 so that the reinforcement member 28 is attached to the outer surface of the lid member 25.
