PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon nanotube coated uniformly with ultrathin nanoprecision polypyrrole layers, as well as a fabrication method for the above polypyrrole-coated nanotubes.;SOLUTION: Carbon nanotubes coated uniformly with ultrathin nanoprecision polypyrrole layers is produced via the following steps: (i) Carbon nanotubes are functionalized in concentrated nitric acid under elevated temperature condition; (ii) The obtained functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTox) are dispersed in purified water to make defined concentration of them; (iii) Pyrrole solution in 2-propanol is added to reach defined pyrrole concentration followed by the addition of persulfate salt, and then the reaction mixture is mixed; (iv) The obtained individual polypyrrole coated carbon nanotubes (solids) are separated and dried.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
