PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified styrene-fumaric acid copolymer reusable for a low shrinkage material of a thermoplastic resin. PSOLUTION: The modified styrene-fumaric acid copolymer is prepared by subjecting the fumaric acid structure portion of a styrene-fumaric acid copolymer to a condensation reaction. The condensation reaction is conducted by the reaction with acetic anhydride or by the thermal dehydration reaction. The styrene-fumaric acid copolymer is prepared by decomposing a thermosetting resin containing a polyester and its crosslinked portion with supercritical water.
