PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for assisting music practice, having a metronome function and a tuning function which visually provide persons practicing music with an accurate tempo and tuning results and which can be used, not only by individuals but also by a plurality of persons at music practice.;SOLUTION: The apparatus for assisting music practice 1 computes driving-pulse transmitting timing corresponding to an inputted tempo and inputs signal pulses to a stepping motor 11 corresponding to the computed timing. The rotating motion of the stepping motor 11 is transmitted to a spur wheel 21 via a plurality of spur wheels and to a fan-shaped spur wheel 22, to rock a baton 3 from side to side to keep time. When the fan-shaped spur wheel 22 is detected by a datum sensor 17 and when the baton 3 reaches a datum position R0, the stepping motor 11 is intentionally made to spin idly by a prescribed amount of pulses, to surely set the baton 3 at the datum position to perform accurate rocking movements.
