PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the engine swept volume and/or the compression ratio, without changing the length of a connecting rod.;SOLUTION: A piston 14 slides between a top dead center TDC and a bottom dead center BDC inside a cylinder 10. A crankshaft 38 controls displacement of the piston 14 under the action of a joint type link system 26 capable of changing the engine swept volume and/or the compression ratio. The joint type link system 26 has a shaft lever 26 installed so as to be pivotally movable around a joint shaft 46 and movable in parallel in at least one direction by displacement control means 52 and 52V. The shift lever 26 has a port hole 44 storing the joint shaft 46 inside, and one end 24 of the shift lever 26 is connected to the connecting rod, and the other end 28 is connected to a link 32 connected to the crankshaft 38.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
