HELIUM-3 NEUTRON PROPORTIONAL COUNTER EQUIPPED WITH INTERNAL GAS LEAK DETECTION, AND RELATED METHOD

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a helium-3 neutron proportional counter equipped with a helium-3 gas leak detection means. PSOLUTION: A neutron proportional counter 10 has a hermetic housing 12 which includes a surrounding cylindrical wall and surrounding both ends closed body. An electrode wire 20 is penetrated and extended at a center portion from keeping an interval from the cylindrical wall. The housing is filled with a pressurized detection gas, and a circuit connection line 34 to the electrode wire 20 and the housing 12 enable the application of a potential to them. The electrode wire 20 consists of a material which forms a source of alpha particles for ionizing the gas in the housing. The electrode wire 20 generates alpha peak on an output spectrum which gets a clear distinction from the peak generated by an incident neutron. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
