PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of dismissing residual hydrogen from a fuel cell stack after stoppage of a fuel cell. PSOLUTION: Nitrogen flow is temporarily provided by providing air flow and removing oxygen from the air flow with the use of an absorbent bed, then the nitrogen flow is made to pass to a fuel cell stack. After the fuel cell stack 34 is stopped, an absorber inlet valve 20 and an absorber outlet valve 24 are opened and a hydrogen flow valve 15 is closed, air flow 12a is displaced to an absorber 16, and then, by passing the obtained nitrogen flow 44 to an anode side 40 of the fuel cell stack 34, residual hydrogen can be dismissed from the fuel cell stack 34.
