PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IP address only to an authenticated user, without the need for special functions in a network device at an end to which a client terminal is connected.;SOLUTION: An authentication DHCP server 1 includes an address management table 11 for use in managing an authentication state of a client terminal, by associating the state with the physical address of the client. An authentication processor 16 in the server 1 relays authentication data transmitted, without IP address assignment from a client to an authentication server, to perform authentication. As a successful result in the requested authentication, a DHCP processor 17 in the server 1 assigns the IP address to the client terminal which is managed as an authenticated one by the address management table 11. An ARP processor 15 in the server 1 returns a false ARP response to the ARP request issued from the client that is yet to be authenticated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
