PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the corresponding acetal compound or carbonyl compound in high yield by reaction between an ether and nitrogen monoxide in the presence of an oxidative catalyst consisting of an imide compound. ;SOLUTION: This acetal compound of formula II or carbonyl compound of the formula: Ra1CRa2O is obtained by reaction, in the presence of (A) an oxidative catalyst consisting of an imide compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, a halogen, alkyl or the like; X is O or hydroxyl; (n) is 1-3) (e.g. N-hydroxyphthalimide), between (B) an ether of the formula: Ra1CRa2HORb (Ra1 and Ra2 are each H, a hydrocarbon or the like; Rb is a hydrocarbon or heterocyclic ring) (e.g. dimethyl ether) and (C) nitrogen monoxide, e.g. at 0-300°C for 30 min to 48 h; wherein it is preferable that the molar ratios A/B and C/B are 0.01-1 and ≥0.5, respectively.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
