PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing particulate matter in exhaust gas, in which particulate matter in exhaust gas is collected by using a filter, on which a catalyst for oxidatively burning particulate matter more inexpensively at a lower temperature in comparison with the conventional catalyst is deposited, and the collected particulate matter is burned oxidatively to clean exhaust gas.;SOLUTION: The catalyst for burning particulate matter is deposited on each of filters 1, 2. The deterioration of the catalyst due to the decrease of the efficiency when particulate matter is burned oxidatively is detected by using a pressure sensor 4 or a temperature sensor 5. A fuel jetting nozzle 3 is actuated according to the detected deterioration of the catalyst to jet fuel into exhaust gas and oxidatively burn particulate matter. When the frequency of actuation of the fuel jetting nozzle 3 is equal to or higher than a predetermined value, the rate of fuel consumption is judged to be aggravated and such a signal that the filter is exchanged for new one is transmitted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
