PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold for molding optical element which is capable of highly precisely transferring the configuration of the mold with extremely high precision of the order of micra to moldings, and a method for molding optical element.;SOLUTION: A heat insulating layer 1 is formed on a mold matrix by applying zirconia as a ceramic material to the surface of a stainless steel core 3 by a flame spray coating process and nickel as a non-ferrous metal material is plated to the surface of the heat insulating layer 1 by a nonelectrolytic plating process to form a surface processed layer 2. When optical parts, e.g. diffraction optics are manufactured, 3.5 μm high braze-shaped nicks 2a at 7 μm pitch of a diffraction grating are formed on the surface of the surface processed layer 2 by cutting using a diamond cutting tool. A synthetic resin is injected into a space 6 for molding a member, formed between the surface processed layer 2 and cavity blocks 4 and 5 and thus the diffraction optical element as the optical parts of the synthetic resin are formed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
