PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composite material excellent in transparency, dispensability into a base material and defensive ability against UV in a region of B wave length by incorporating titanium oxide into a silica carrier consisting essentially of silicon oxide.;SOLUTION: This composite material preferably consists of plural particulate particles of titanium oxide generally uniform densely scattered in a silica carrier. The concentration of added titanium oxide to a mass of whole powder is preferably 0.5-90%. The composite material is produced by adding liquid in which particulates of titanium oxide are dispersed (e.g. titania sol) to liquid in which particulates of silicon oxide are dispersed (e.g. silica sol) and occluding and compounding titanium oxide when silicon oxide is deposited. Silicon oxide is deposited on a specified condition to obtain meso porous powder or bar- shaped meso porous powder whose meso pores have 20-200 nm outside diameter and longitudinally extend.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
