Prediction method of lubrication oil film thickness and lubricating oil consumption

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of estimating lubricating oil film thicknesses on piston ring sliding surfaces with the cylinder deformed, at figures very close to actual measurements and in a short period of time, and a method of qualitatively estimating, in a short period of time, the effect of cylinder deformation on the amount of lubricating oil carried to the combustion chamber through the piston ring sliding surfaces and consumed.;SOLUTION: The piston ring deformation is calculated in a three moments method by considering a piston ring as a straight beam. Thus, the estimation can be competed in less steps compared to a method using a finite element analysis.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
