PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rewritable diffraction grating that can achieve a reversible holographic recording process and a simple device configuration, and to provide a holographic display, a method for forming a holographic image, and a method for making a rewritable diffraction grating.;SOLUTION: The rewritable diffraction grating contains first nanoparticles and second nanoparticles. Each first nanoparticle generates a charge carrier in response to a write beam. Each second nanoparticle alters its response to light from a read beam upon receiving the charge carrier from the first nanoparticles. The second nanoparticles are disposed in proximity to the first nanoparticles to permit the charge carriers generated by the first nanoparticles to interact with the second nanoparticles.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
