PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and improved iris imaging apparatus for suppressing power consumption required for illumination and reducing glare for a subject. PSOLUTION: The iris imaging apparatus 10 is provided with an imaging part 13 for imaging eyes of the subject, a luminance distribution analysis part 19 for generating luminance distribution information by analyzing a luminance distribution of an iris region in an eye image picked up by the imaging part 13, and an adjusting part 20 for adjusting brightness of a photographic lighting 12 and/or a setting parameter of the imaging part 13 on the basis of the luminance distribution information. The brightness of the lighting and the setting parameter of the imaging part can be properly adjusted according to iris characteristics of the subject and the brightness of a photographic environment, thereby minimizing the brightness of the lighting.
