PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide thick-sized high strength martensitic stainless steel wire having excellent ductility and spring cold formability and steel wire as the stock therefor for inexpensively producing a thick-sized spring product having lightness and durability.;SOLUTION: The thick-sized high strength martensitic stainless steel wire has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.13 to 0.30% C, 0.2 to 3.0% Si, ≤2.0% Mn, 11.0 to 17.0% Cr and ≤0.15% N, and further comprising 0.1 to 4.0% Ni, and in which C+0.4N is controlled to 0.15 to 0.30%, and M value is controlled to ≥0(%), has a tensile strength of 1,600 N/mm2 and a tensile fracture construction of ≥30%, and has a wire diameter of ϕ4.5 to 20 mm: M value(%)=Ni+0.12Mn+0.44Cu+18N+30C-1.2Cr-1.8Si-1.7Mo+13.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
