PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely adjust only a color tone in transmission display without impairing a color tone in reflection display and to obtain excellent color tones in the transmission display and reflection display.;SOLUTION: A metal thin film (reflecting layer) 8A has an opening area 101 which transmits light in the transmission display and a reflection area 102 which totally reflects the light. A reflecting layer 8A in the reflection area 102 totally reflects the external light, so the external light reaching the reflection area 102 of the reflecting layer 8A is all reflected by the reflecting layer 8A and no reflection is caused on the interface between a light diffusion layer 7A and a lower substrate 2. On the top surface of the reflecting layer 8A, a color layer (color filter) 9 is formed, so at least the light diffusion layer 7A in the opening area 101 is colored and the chromaticity of the colored light reflecting layer 7A is adjusted to adjust only the color tone in the transmission display.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
