PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road map deformation method applicable even to a form with a plurality of intricately intersecting roads, in consideration of such needs as for placing top priority on straightening a road ahead, giving priority to orthogonalizing a road over maintaining a road length, and giving priority to a wider road in road straightening.;SOLUTION: A road map conversion device comprises a road map input means to input a road map for storage, a deformation processing means to perform deformation processing for the road map, and a road map output means to output a road map resulting from the deformation processing. The deformation processing means sets up a node including an end point and a crooked point of the road map as an initial arrangement, and performs orthogonalizing/straightening processing which repeats an optimization processing loop for rearranging the node based on the evaluation function comprising a first term indicative of road length maintenance, a second term indicative of road orthogonalizing and a third term indicative of road straightening, until the convergence conditions of the evaluation function are satisfied.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
