PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide image read equipment which enables optimum shading correction without affected by the change of the amount of light of a light source, when it changes in the case that a cold cathode tube is used as a light source for reading an original manuscript, by making correction each page possible in a short processing time. SOLUTION: Prescribed correction data K are obtained on the basis of a first white peak value W1P of first white reference data W1 which can be obtained by reading a white reference plate 28 in the state that the cold cathode tube as the light source 20 is sufficiently cooled, and a second white peak value W2P of second white reference data W2 which can be obtained by reading the reference plate 28 just before the reading of the original manuscript is started. Shading correction is performed to image data P1 of each page obtained by reading the original manuscript, on the basis of previously obtained black reference data B, the first white reference data W1 and correction data K, and correction image data P2 are outputted.
