PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject microorganism useful for bioreactor or the like for phenol-containing discharge treatment without adding nutritive salts by carrying out growth of Burkholderia cepacia 1A in the presence of polystyrene. ;SOLUTION: Growth of Burkholderia cepacia 1A (FERM P-15566) is carried out in the presence of polystyrene to promote growth of Burkholderia cepacia 1A. Furthermore, it is preferable to promote growth of Burkholderia cepacia 1A by applying physical force to polystyrene during growth of Burkholderia cepacia 1A and positively releasing at least a part of microbial cells retained and proliferated on the surface of polystyrene and it is preferable to produce a bioreactor by growing Burkholderia cepacia 1A in the presence of a bioreactor.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
