Polymeric UV absorbers based on units of formula (I) are new, where a+b+c+d = 100; a, c = 5-95; b, d = 0-70; R1, R2 = H or 1-8C alkyl; R3 = 3-hydroxy-4-benzoylphenoxy, a benzoyloxy group substituted in the 2-position by N(X1)(X2), a group of formula (i)-(iv), 2-hydroxybenzoyloxy, 4-(2-oxo-3-bornylidenemethyl)phenoxy, 3-hydroxy-4-(benzylÄbÜ1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)phenoxy or 4-hydroxy-3-(benzylÄbÜ1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)benzoyloxy; X1-X7 = H or 1-8C alkyl; R4 = (CO)n-R5; R5 = 1-28C alkyl; n = 0 or 1; R6 = 1-22C alkyl; R7 = H or CH3; and R8 (sic) = H or CH3.
