PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating exhaust gas from an optical fiber production process which catches/absorbs dust particles and a harmful gas efficiently and is small in size and low in cost.;SOLUTION: An exhaust gas treatment chamber 1 for treating the exhaust gas discharged from the optical fiber production process is divided into an upper side dust collection part 8 and a lower side scrubber part 12. A discharge electrode 6 for electrifying the dust particles contained in the exhaust gas and a dust collecting plate 5 for catching the dust particles electrified by the discharge electrode 6 are installed in the dust collection part 8. A filler 10 for removing the dust particles which are not caught in the dust collection part 8 and a gas absorbing liquid spray part 24 for absorbing harmful gas components contained in the exhaust gas which passed through the dust collection part 8 are set in the scrubber part 12. The longitudinal direction of the discharge electrode 6 is formed in parallel with the flow direction of the exhaust gas flowing in the dust collection part 8 so that the charged dust particles can be collected efficiently even when the space of the dust collection part 8 is narrow.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
