Polycrystalline FeGa alloy ribbon with a giant magnetostrictive properties

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single crystalline material for Fe-x at%Ga (15x21) alloy having a great magnectostriction of -300×10^-6, wherein a production condition is not sensitive, a production cost is low, and ductility is fully.;SOLUTION: A super-magnectostriction material for Fe-x at%Ga (15x21) alloy having a columnar crystalline integrated structure in the direction of beltlike thickness, is obtained by rapid solidification. The super-magnectostriction material is characterized in that this material has a crystal structure where a body-centered tetragonal structure emerged by stress induction that is different in axis length (a≠c) is mixed with a body-centered cubic structure. An integrated structure having an easily magnetizable direction [100] in the direction of beltlike thickness, is formed by heat-treatment of this super-magnectostriction material. The obtained strain is great as -400×10^-6 or above in the direction of beltlike thickness.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
