PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for dehydrating glycerol having a long life capable of suppressing fluctuation in acrolein yield and a method for preparing the catalyst.;SOLUTION: The catalyst for dehydrating glycerol is comprised of phosphorous (P) and at least one elements and at least one species of alkali metals (M) selected from a group consisting of sodium (Na), potassium (K), and cesium (Cs) supported by a support wherein M/P namely a molar ratio of M and P is not higher than 2.0. The method for preparing the catalyst for dehydrating glycerol comprises a step of impregnating a support with an aqueous solution containing a phosphoric acid ion and at least one species of alkali metal ions selected from the group consisting of Na+, K+, and Cs+, a step of subsequently drying and solidifying the impregnated support, and a step of calcining the resulting support.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
