PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new poly(ethyleneoxide) derivative used as an initiator for radical polymerization.;SOLUTION: The poly(ethyleneoxide) derivative is expressed by general formula (I). The general formula (I) is A-O-(CH₂CH₂O)_n-L-S-C(=S)N(alk)₂. Wherein, A represents an organic group which does not adversely affect radial polymerization; L is a 2-6C alkylene group or a group expressed by formula below; alk is an identical or a different 1-4C alkyl group; n is an integer of 5-2,000. The polymerization initiator is constituted of the derivative. A block copolymer comprising PEG segments and other polymer segments is obtained from the derivative.
