PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce price, and allow efficient electron emission with low voltage drive by using carbon material having at least one of carbon nano-tube, Fullerence, nano-particles, nano-capsule, and carbon nano-horn. SOLUTION: An insulating substrate 101, a cathode conductor 102, and a paste-like carbon layer containing carbon nano-tube are laminated, then dried, and burned. By ribbing the carbon layer with a blade, emitters 301 where the carbon nano-tube is exposed from the wall portions 302 of the ribs are formed. Thereafter, by forming rib-like gate electrodes 404 an electron releasing source is completed.
