A method of displaying a standard observational X-ray CT image for diagnostics for use in an X-ray CT apparatus or an X-ray CT image display apparatus and an apparatus for displaying the same image are proposed and disclosed.;The standard observational X-ray CT image is defined as a view image that shows an interested area of a dental arch of an object to be examined designated by an operator such as a dentist or assistant, which is seen in a direction substantially normal to a curve of the dental arch of the object through its cheek side to its tongue side, and such view is similar to an X-ray panoramic image familiar to them in usual diagnostics and is produced from X-ray CT data of the maxillofacial area of the object by addition to a specified image processing to the X-ray CT data, using a dental arch reference information prepared in advance and displayed on a display means for diagnostics.;The standard observational X-ray CT image can be displayed as a display image of at least one of an X-ray CT sectional image and a three-dimensional CT volume image depending on its purpose. The present method involves a step of designating the interested area with respect to the maxillofacial area of the object, a step of producing the standard observational X-ray CT image of the designated interested area, based on the dental arch reference information prepared in advance, and a step of displaying on a display means the standard observational X-ray CT image of the object thus produced.
