AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR PREPRATION OF RED IRON OXIDE PIGMENT

An improved process for preparation of red iron oxide pigment from the iron sludge which comprises treating the iron oxide sludge with mineral acid under agitated conditions for a period of 30 to 180 minutes, washing the sludge with water to obtain a semi dried product, firing the said semi dried product in presence of a catalyst firstly at a temperature ranging between 300-400°C for 1-5 hrs, cooling and grinding the said crude product to obtain fine powder, firing the said fine powder at a temperature ranging between 800-900°C for a period of 1-6 hrs under the oxidizing conditions to obtain the product
