The installation is for the cultivation of plants in containers and involves a growth chamber exposable to light in which one or more containers with growing plants can be placed. The installation is provided with at least one more growth chambe together with equipment for the exchangeable displacement of the one or more plant containers in the first and second growth chambers. This provides for the capacity of the installation to be considerably increased, so that a group of growing plants can be exposed to light for more than 12 hours, such as 20 hours, so that they can experience a blooming and growth phase of long duration. The installation (10) contains uprights (11) and intermediate horizontal beams (12). Between the beams is a first cultivation space (15), in which one or more containers (2) with growing plants can be placed. The installation contains a second growth chamber (17) which extends beneath the first chamber. This second chamber is likewise accessible fo rlight. Both chambers are provided with assimilation lamps (19,19'). Irrigation of the growing plants is in accordance with known methods, whereby the first cultivation space is provided with a tray with upright sides (16), enabling water to be fed via an irrigation system (18a,18b) to the plants.
