The natural material perlite is processed to a fixed form structure without any compostable adhesive being added. The compostable fiber material used is that of organic origin for reciprocal joining of the expanded perlite granules. Preferred compostable materials are cotton fibres, copra fibers, fibers prepared from plant materials such as polylactic acid. The fiber material is recyclable together with the perlite and for further processing does not have to be separated from the perlite. The composition of the perlite granules as the result of the compostable fiber material during the lifetime of the feeding bed will be reduced as the outcome of the partial composting of the fiber material. The compostable fiber material comprises preferably shortened fiber parts of an average length of 8-3 mm and particularly an average length of 4mm (+ or - 0.5mm) in order to constitute an advantageous binding result.
