A method of supporting the viability, proliferation and/or differentiation of mammalian dendritic cells wherein the method comprises culturing dendritic cells and/or precursors thereof in the presence of an effective number of mononuclear immune cells. Furthermore the culture is not supplemented with exogenous cytokine and the method is carried out for a time and under conditions sufficient of the mononuclear immune cells to support the dendritic cells and/or precursors thereof.
