METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE STRENGTH OF WOOD AT SPLITTING UNDER LONG-TERM STATIC LOAD

The proposed method for determining the strength of wood at splitting under long-term static load is distinctive by that the stress concentrator in the wood sample is located at the internal surface of the hole of the wood sample and arranged in parallel to the wood fibers. The force is applied to the sample by two inserts, which are installed in the hole of the sample. The upper insert is coupled with a fixed support, and the lower insert is coupled to a traverse with weights designed for providing long-term static load that generates stresses in the sample that are perpendicular to the wood fibers. The strength of the wood is determined by the time period from the beginning of the loading of the sample to the formation of cracks in the sample or the destruction of the sample.
