METHOD FOR ASSESSING VIABILITY OF NEWBORN (ONE-DAY) PIGLETS BY STATE OF FETAL PART OF PLACENTA

A method for assessing the viability of the newborn (one day) piglets by the state of the fetal part of the placenta comprises the morphologic study of placenta upon its expulsion. The maternal and fetal surfaces of the placenta are examined visually. The color, the presence of the villi, the folds, and the hemorrhages are assessed. In addition, the following factors are taken into account for the assessment of the viability of the newborn piglets: the number of the dead fetuses, the pathological alterations of the fetal part of placenta, the width of the fragments and the length of the umbilical cord in each piglet.
