Compensating measured accelerometer output signal for influence of gravity, used for calibrating vehicle performance, uses parametric model with inserted estimated model parameters
The signal is compensated by a method comprising the following steps: (A) approximating the influence of gravity on accelerometer measurements with a parametric model; (B) estimating the parameters of this model by using a parametric estimation method based on the measured accelerometer output signal and an external reference signal; (C) inserting the estimated parameters into the model; and (D) compensating the subsequently measured accelerometer output signals by applying the model with the inserted estimated parameters. The parametric model describes the relationship between a measured horizontal acceleration, gravity and a compensated horizontal acceleration. The external reference signal is based on at least one of the following - GPS, laser, radar or timing card measurements.
