Pneumatic cylinder comprises an end damping unit with a lifting chamber which is delimited by a moving lifting element and a part of the cylinder. The lifting chamber is connected to a working pressure impinging the cylinder piston via a connecting channel. The lifting element is impinged by a damping pressure in a damping volume via a damping channel. A non-return valve is arranged in the connecting channel in front of the lifting chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for damping the cylinder piston of a pneumatic cylinder. Preferred Features: A damping pin extending in the axial direction into the cylinder housing is arranged in the region of the end stop of the piston which has a recess for the damping pin.
