A method for detecting atrophy of intestinal microvilli in a patient suffering from celiac disease including immunological detection of anti-F-actin autoantibodies in a biological fluid from said patient consisting of the following steps: a) preparing a culture of normal epithelial cells small intestine of an experimental animal; b) incubation with the patient fluid c) detecting binding of the anti-F-actin autoantibodies to the cells.
