Methylated methylated antisense deoxyoligonucleotides substantially complementary to and which may form a stable complex with a target sequence within the untranslated region of the uPA gene located between nucleotides 1 and 1226 and containing CpG islands, wherein said oligonucleotides are selected from the group consisting in oligonucleotides substantially complementary to at least one of the SEQ. ID. NO. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 that have cytosine methylated in 5 instead of unmethylated cytosine in a region complementary to CpG; wherein the CpG islands in said target sequence are exactly complementary in the base sequence but not necessarily in the state of methylation with respect to said oligonucleotide.
