A method for resolving contention among applications operable on a device (30) mobile communications that require data connections to a wireless network (12), the method comprising: directing at least two data connections between the device (30) mobile communications and wireless network (12), each associated data connections with a connected application operating on the device (30) mobile communications; requesting a data connection for an unconnected application running on the device (30) mobile communications; in response to the request, automatically selecting one of the connected applications; releasing the data connection associated with the selected connected application; and establishing the data connection between the device (30) mobile communications and wireless network (12) for the unconnected application.
