A steel cord adapted for the reinforcement of elastomers, said cord comprising: - a core consisting of a steel filament whose diameter is dc, said core being coated with a polymer; - six intermediate steel filaments whose diameters are di, which is less than or equal to the diameter dc of said core constituted by the steel filament, said intermediate steel filaments being twisted around said core constituted by a steel filament; - ten or eleven outer steel filaments having a diameter of less than or equal to said diameter di of the intermediate steel filaments, said outer steel filaments being twisted around said intermediate steel filaments, said outer steel filaments being polygonally preformed to allow the penetration of the rubber into said rope; said core consisting of a steel filament, said intermediate steel filaments and said outer steel filaments all having a tensile strength of at least 2600 MPa, said rope having an outer diameter D according to the following formula: D _ dc + 2xdi + 2xd0 + 0.1 where all diameters are expressed in millimeters (mm).
