A method of incorporating in practice a method of controlling call admission in a Node-B of a system (300) wireless communications comprises at least one Node-B and at least one wireless unit transmit / receive (430), WTRU, the method comprising the steps of (a) receiving a call request; (B) selecting a particular code from a code set; and (c) selecting a particular timeslot from a plurality of available timeslots; characterized by: (d) calculating a target cell load and a neighbor cell load for the selected timeslot using Node-B measurements and assuming addition of the selected code to the selected timeslot; (E) calculating a weighted system load for the selected timeslot; (F) repeating steps (c) - (e) for all other available timeslots; (G) selecting a timeslot having a smallest weighted load for allocation of the code system; and (h) removing the code of the code set.
