DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MEASURING PULSUS PARADOXUS

A device and method are disclosed for electronically measuring the degree ofpulsus paradoxus in a patient from a single patient datasource. The single data source may be any device that outputs a waveformindicative of patient pulsatile cardiovascular behavior such as anoptical plethysmograph, a pulse oximeter, or a blood pressure monitor. Theinvention is useful for rapidly assessing the status of a patientin acute respiratory distress for the purpose of objectively determining theseverity of their condition.
