Atrial sensing and stimulation as intervention for atrial fibrillation. Thepresent invention relates to a method of atrial defibrillation. Ina variety of protocols varying combinations of conventional and biphasicstimulation are applied at threshold and subthreshold levels. In apreferred embodiment, the implantable electronic stimulation device of thepresent invention includes multiple electrodes having stimulatingand sensing capabilities. The small size of these electrodes allows forintravenous insertion into the patient.
