A method for measurement of velocity distributions of a fluid flowing through a tube cross section and scattering light, in which in each case at least two independent velocity components (w, vx, vy) of the flow are measured by means of at least one laser-Doppler anemometer (LDA measurement probe), which is arranged outside a tube (1, 26, 39) with a tube centre axis (8), at a plurality of measurement points (10, 15, 18, 32), which are arranged distributed over the tube cross section, can be improved if the velocity components (w, vx, vy) for each measurement point (10, 15, 18, 32) are measured with reference to a spatially fixed coordinate system (7), one of whose axes (z) coincides with the tube centre axis (8), or is shifted parallel to it, and whose two other axes lie on the same plane as the tube cross section, and such that radial and tangential velocity components are in each case calculated from the two velocity components (vx, vy) on the same plane as the tube cross section.
