MULTIFUNCTIONAL TORQUE CONVERTER FOR DISCONNECTING THE TURBINE FROM THE IDLING ENGINE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR DISCONNECTING A MULTIFUNCTIONAL TORQUE CONVERTER FROM THE IDLING ENGINE
The invention relates to a torque converter which comprises the following components: a damper assembly that is connected to a hub of the torque converter, a turbine clutch that is connected to a turbine and the damper assembly, and a converter clutch that is connected to a housing of the torque converter and the damper assembly. In an idle mode, the turbine clutch and the converter clutch are disengaged, and the converter housing can freely rotate in relation to the hub. In a converter mode, the turbine clutch is engaged, the converter clutch is disengaged, and the turbine clutch non-rotatably connects the turbine and the damper assembly. In a lock-up mode, the converter clutch is engaged, and the converter clutch non-rotatably connects the converter housing and the damper assembly.
