Embodiments of the present invention provide for the physiological analysis of neuroactive compounds in vivo and provide a unique mechanism for deriving pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Embodiments of the present invention take advantage of the recognition that the amplitude and/or phase of oscillatory potentials (OPs) of electroretinograms (ERGs) may be affected by systemic administration of various compounds. As a result, embodiments of the present invention provide screening methods and assays to determine the neural impact and efficacy of various drugs in individual animals, including humans.
