MONITORING BEHAVIOUR OF DATA RECEIVERS USING DATA NETWORKS

Methods and systems for a sender to assess the behaviour of a receiver to whom the sender is sending data over a data network, said data comprising a plurality of packets having a predetermined normal order; the method comprising the sender performing steps of: selecting at least one packet from said plurality of packets to be a displaced packet; selecting a sequence displacement in respect of said displaced packet; sending packets of said plurality of packets other than said displaced packet in a sequence such as to be in the predetermined normal order, and sending said displaced packet at a position in said sequence determined by said sequence displacement selected in respect of said displaced packet; monitoring responses received from said receiver; and inferring honest or dishonest behaviour on the part of the receiver on the basis of responses received from said receiver.
