Demodulation of AM and FM using the Teager-Kaiser operator

A receiver (1) for receiving an analog radio frequency signal (x(t)) comprises analog-digital converter means (20,21) able to receive the analog signal (x(t)) in input for converting the analog signal (x(t)) into a digital signal (x(n)) and processing means (30,31) able to apply a non-linear Teager-Kaiser function (Ψ) to the digital signal x(n) for generating a first signal (Ψ[x(n)]) representative of the energy content of the digital signal (x(n)), process the digital signal (x(n)) for generating a derivative signal (x'(n)) representative of the derivative of the digital signal (x(n)), apply said non-linear Teager-Kaiser function (Ψ) to the derivative signal (x'(n)) for generating a second signal (Ψ[x'(n)]) representative of the energy content of the derivative (x'(n)) and process the first signal (Ψ[x(n)]) and the second signal (Ψ[x'(n)]) for generating at least one characteristic information of the digital signal (x(n)).
