Heated metal oxide sensors are widely used for detecting oxidizable and reducible gases and vapors. In prior art, the gas-dependent resistance is evaluated in a measuring manner in the effective layer by means of the physical unit called ohm , represented by the symbol R. According to the invention, the electric charge is measured and evaluated using the physical unit 'Coulomb', said electric charge changing in the effective layer of the metal oxide sensor in the presence of gas. Disclosed are advantageous and suitable technical electrical methods.
