Use of 1,2-decanediol for reducing sebum concentration and/or for enhancing penetration of actives into skin areas, and cosmetic and/or dermatological compositions comprising 1,2-decanediol
The use of 1,2-decanediol for reduction of the sebum concentration of the skin. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) cosmetic and/or dermatological formulation for topical application, characterized in that the formulation, comprises an amount of 1,2-decanediol which is sufficient to reduce the sebum concentration of the skin, optionally one-ten or more cleansing auxiliary substances, one-four or more active compounds chosen from benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, lactic acid, azelaic acid, retinoids, antibiotics, sulfur, chlorhexidine, triclosan, farnesol, phenoxyethanol, isoflavonoids and antiandrogens, and optionally one or more further auxiliary substances and/or additives with the proviso that (i) if the formulation contains 1,2-decanediol (1 wt.%), then the formulation may not at the same time contain lactic acid (1 wt.%) or lactic acid (2 wt.%), (ii) if the formulation contains 1,2-decanediol (0.5 wt.%), then the formulation may not at the same time contain salicylic acid (0.5 or 1 wt.%) or lactic acid (0.5 wt.%) and salicylic acid (1 wt.%), (iii) if the formulation contains 1,2-decanediol (0.4 wt.%), then the formulation may not at the same time contain lactic acid (1 wt.%) and salicylic acid (0.5 wt.%), (iv) if the formulation contains 0.3 wt.% 1,2-decanediol, then the formulation may not at the same time contain 2.5 wt.% lactic acid or 0.2 wt.% salicylic acid and 1 wt.% lactic acid, (v) if the formulation contains 1,2-decanediol (0.2 wt.%), then the formulation may not at the same time contain lactic acid (2, 1 or 0.5 wt.%), (vi) and if the formulation contains 1,2-decanediol (0.1 wt.%), then the formulation may not at the same time contain lactic acid (1 wt.%); (2) method for reduction of the sebum concentration of the skin, involves providing 1,2-decanediol, preparing the formulation and applying the formulation to greasy-oily and/or impure skin, where the amount of 1,2-decanediol being sufficient to reduce the sebum concentration of the skin; (3) the use of 1,2-decanediol to assist the penetration of one, two, three or more active compounds chosen from benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, lactic acid, azelaic acid, retinoids, antibiotics, sulfur, chlorhexidine, triclosan, farnesol, phenoxyethanol, isoflavonoids and antiandrogens into areas of skin with increased sebum production; and (4) method for assisting the penetration of one, two, three or more active compounds chosen from benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, lactic acid, azelaic acid, retinoids, antibiotics, sulfur, chlorhexidine, triclosan, farnesol, phenoxyethanol, isoflavonoids and antiandrogens in areas of skin with increased sebum production, involves providing 1,2-decanediol, providing one, two, three or more active compounds chosen from benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, lactic acid, azelaic acid, retinoids, antibiotics, sulfur, chlorhexidine, triclosan, farnesol, phenoxyethanol, isoflavonoids and antiandrogens, preparing the cosmetic and/or dermatological formulation for topical application, and applying the prepared formulation to the relevant areas of the skin. ACTIVITY : Antiseborrheic. A clinical study for reducing sebum concentration on the skin surface was conducted in 17-19 years old male subjects with greasy-oily and/or impure skin. Subjects were administered two times daily with a formulation comprising 1,2-decanediol (GS06016-2) (half side of the forehead) and a placebo formulation without 1,2-decanediol (GS06016-1) (other half side of the forehead). The sebum content was measured on 0, 14, 21 and 28 days. On days 21 and 28 GS06016-2 reduced the sebum content by 19.8 mu g/cm 2and 29.4 mu g/cm 2, respectively compared to GS06016-1. The results showed that GS06016-2 significantly reduced the sebum content (p is less than 0.05) compared to placebo. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
