The device (10) has feeder rapiers (11, 12) that are provided with grippers (111, 121), respectively, where the grippers are tied to weft yarns (5-1, 5-2), respectively. Gripper openers (81, 82) release the weft yarns when the grippers of the rapiers are in a retracted position outside of sheds. The openers are movable in translation along direction parallel to weft insertion axes (Y1, Y2) between an unblocking position and a position where the openers activate the grippers to open. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing the insertion defect of the weft in the loom for the carpet.
